Elk Rapids

The 7th grade class at Cherryland Middle School in Elk Rapids, Michigan, organized a community fundraiser to help the people of Tanzania. They were lead by their energetic teacher, Leigh Fairey, and did a wonderful job! The fundraiser was both well-organized and chaotically fun.

The students divided themselves into teams to provide a wonderful meal for the community. They had a public relations group, a decorating team, ticket salespeople, cooks, cleaners, and actors. They fed several hundred people and then provided interpretations of African Fold Tales. They also built working solar ovens to display (the sun didn’t cooperate so they couldn’t demonstrate them). Their efforts produced a thousand dollars for the project!
